Attract the Red-breasted Nuthatch to Your Garden
Background
Birds rely on a variety of food sources that can change at different times of their life cycle. Some birds that eat seeds as adults require insects to feed their young. Planting is the best way to ensure you meet the needs of the greatest diversity of birds throughout the seasons.
Red-breasted Nuthatch
The best way toattract red-breasted nuthatches is with coniferous trees. They love the seeds of spruce, pine, and fir and will search the branches and trunks of these trees for insects. The nuts of beech trees may also tempt them. Coniferous trees are their preferred nesting site, where they will choose dead stubs or branches to build their cavity nests. Red-breasted nuthatches will occasionally use nest boxes.
