Pollinator Fact Sheets

Pollinators are the insects, birds and other animals that carry pollen from one plant to another, helping them produce fruit and seeds. Close to 80 percent of flowering plants are dependent on pollinators to help them transfer their pollen. Insects, such as bees, are considered the most important group of pollinators. Without them we wouldn’t have many of the fruits, vegetables and other foods we require.

However, pollinators are facing a crisis in Canada and across the world. Habitat loss, the use of pesticides and insecticides and other stressors are combining against these valuable species, resulting in economic as well as biodiversity losses.
